There are so many types of Inflatable Obstacle Courses we PIPA Test for our customers. Some are just 1 piece; some are multi-piece units with many complicated sections and user flow to work out. Being large inflatables used outside the number of tie-downs has to be correct, so we spend a lot of time measuring and working out the correct amount required.

A PIPA Inspection for an inflatable obstacle course ensures it meets BS EN 14960 safety standards. Here’s what gets checked during the inspection:

1. Manufacturer & Compliance Checks

✔️ PIPA Tag & Certification – Ensures the inflatable is registered and complies with PIPA safety standards.
✔️ BS EN 14960 Compliance – Verifies the obstacle course meets European safety regulations.
✔️ User Restrictions Clearly Displayed – Checks that weight, height, and maximum user limits are visible.

2. Material & Structural Integrity

✔️ Fabric Condition – Checks for tears, rips, or weakened fabric, especially in high-stress areas.
✔️ Seams & Stitching – Ensures secure stitching with no loose or broken threads.
✔️ Obstacle Stability – Confirms climbing walls, slides, and tunnels are firmly attached and safe.
✔️ Reinforced Impact Areas – Inspects areas where users land or make contact (e.g., base of slides, climbing sections).

3. Inflation & Anchorage

✔️ Blower & Inflation System – Ensures the blower is working correctly and maintaining constant air pressure.
✔️ Air Leaks & Pressure Test – Checks for excessive air loss beyond normal valve function.
✔️ Secure Anchoring – Verifies that all anchor points are secure with the correct stakes or weights.
✔️ Wind Resistance & Stability – Tests if the inflatable remains stable under safe wind conditions.

4. Entry, Exit & Safety Features

✔️ Entrance & Exit Safety – Ensures clear and stable access points with no tripping hazards.
✔️ Side Walls & Barriers – Checks that side walls are fully inflated and high enough to prevent falls.
✔️ Safety Mats in Key Areas – Ensures proper placement of impact mats at entrances and exits.
✔️ Obstruction-Free Pathways – This confirms that users can safely pass through the course without bottlenecks or hazards.

5. Electrical & Fire Safety

✔️ Blower & Power Supply Safety – Inspects electrical cables, plugs, and connections for damage.
✔️ Correct Fuse Rating – Ensures the blower fuse matches manufacturer specifications.
✔️ No Overheating Issues – Tests for excessive blower heat during extended use.
✔️ Fire Retardant Material – Confirms the inflatable is made from fire-resistant material as required.

6. Supervision & Operational Safety

✔️ Safe Play Rules Clearly Displayed – Checks that safety instructions are visible to users.
✔️ No Entrapment Risks – Tests for gaps or areas where users could get stuck.
✔️ Maximum User Limit Tested – This ensures the inflatable can safely hold the recommended number of users.
✔️ Emergency Deflation System – Checks for safe and controlled deflation methods in case of power loss.

Obstacle Course Setup & Pre-Use Safety Checks

Ensuring your inflatable obstacle course is set up correctly and safe for use is essential for a fun and accident-free experience. Follow this step-by-step guide to ensure everything is secure and compliant with safety standards.

1. Setup & Positioning

✔️ Stable Grounding – Place the obstacle course on flat, level ground, away from sharp objects, fences, roads, or water.
✔️ Clear Surroundings – Ensure at least 1.5m clearance from walls, trees, power lines, or other obstacles.
✔️ Correct Layout – Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper setup and alignment of course sections.

2. Anchoring & Structural Integrity

✔️ Securely Anchored – Use stakes to keep the inflatable firmly in place.
✔️ No Loose Seams or Stitching – Inspect for tears, rips, or weak seams, especially in high-impact areas.
✔️ Firm & Even Inflation – The course should be fully inflated with no sagging or soft spots.

3. Blower & Power Supply Checks

✔️ Blower Securely Connected – Ensure the blower is properly attached and cables are undamaged.
✔️ Constant Airflow – The inflatable should stay firm while in use. Any air leaks beyond normal valve release could indicate an issue.
✔️ Unobstructed Air Vents – Make sure air inlets and outlets are free from blockages.

4. Safety Features & Course Readiness

✔️ Entry & Exit Points Clear – No tripping hazards or obstructions at entry/exit areas.
✔️ Side Barriers & Walls Intact – Ensure side walls and inflatable barriers are fully inflated to prevent falls.
✔️ Obstacle Stability – Test each obstacle (climbing walls, slides, tunnels) to ensure they are secure and properly inflated.
✔️ Safety Mats in Place – Place protective mats at exits, high-impact areas, and climbing sections if needed.

5. Supervision & User Safety Rules

✔️ Adult Supervision at All Times – A responsible adult or trained operator must monitor use.
✔️ No Sharp Objects – Users must remove shoes, glasses, and sharp items before entering.
✔️ Follow Capacity Limits – Stick to the maximum number of users allowed at one time.
✔️ Safe Play Only – No rough play, flipping, pushing, or overcrowding.

What to Do If an Issue is Found?

Do not use the obstacle course if there are damages, unsecured areas, or inflation issues.
✔️ Report & Fix Issues – Arrange for repairs or an inspection by a qualified safety inspector.

Following this checklist ensures a safe and fun experience for all users!
