We PIPA inspect many different types and sizes of slides; some have a simple 1 climb and 1 slide, some are up-and-over slides, and some have multiple climbs and slides.

When inspecting slides, there are many points we take into account, like anchor point numbers and locations, user numbers and flow, supervision and slide size.

The most common points for us with slides are Pressure, Slip sheet condition, Anchor point numbers, Stability and Design of the inflatable for user flow and interaction. If used in accordance with the manufacturer’s handbook and rules, inflatable slides are great fun.

PIPA Testing for Inflatable Slides

PIPA inspections ensure that inflatable slides meet BS EN 14960 safety standards and are safe for public use. Here’s what a PIPA inspection typically includes:

  1. Initial Design Check – Ensures the slide is manufactured according to safety standards.
  2. Material Inspection – Checking for wear, tear, and weak points in the fabric.
  3. Structural Integrity Test – Examining air pressure, seams, and anchor points.
  4. Stability Test – Ensuring the inflatable remains stable and doesn’t tip over.
  5. Blower and Power Supply Check – Ensuring proper airflow and electrical safety.
  6. Entrances & Exits – Making sure entry/exit points are safe and meet regulations.
  7. Label & Certification – Once passed, the inflatable receives a PIPA tag for traceability

Pre-Use Safety Checks for Inflatable Slides

Ensuring the safety of your inflatable slide is essential for preventing accidents and maintaining compliance with industry standards. Before each use, follow this simple checklist to confirm your inflatable is safe and ready for action.

1. Site & Setup Checks

✔️ Stable Grounding – Set up on a level surface, away from hazards like fences, roads, or sharp objects.
✔️ Secure Anchorage – Ensure all anchor points are firmly secured with stakes.
✔️ Clear Overhead Space – Keep away from power lines, trees, or other overhead obstacles.

2. Inflatable Condition Checks

✔️ Fabric & Seams – No rips, holes, or loose stitching.
✔️ Slide Surface – Smooth, undamaged, and free of excessive wear.
✔️ Proper Inflation – The inflatable should be firm, with no sagging or weak areas. Check for a minimum of 1Kpa or the manufacturer’s minimum pressure requirements.

3. Blower & Electrical Safety

✔️ Secure Blower Connection – Ensure power cables are undamaged and properly connected.
✔️ Unobstructed Airflow – Air inlets and outlets should be clear of debris.
✔️ Consistent Air Pressure – No significant loss of air while in use.

4. Safety Features & User Protection

✔️ Side Walls & Barriers – Fully inflated and high enough to prevent falls.
✔️ Entry & Exit Points – Stable and free from obstructions, with safety mats in place.
✔️ User Guidelines Displayed – Follow weight and height restrictions.

5. Supervision & Rules

✔️ Trained Staff or Responsible Adults – A supervisor must be present at all times.
✔️ No Sharp Objects – Shoes, glasses, and sharp items must be removed before use.
✔️ Safe Play Only – No rough play, somersaults, or overcrowding.

What to Do if an Issue is Found?

Do not use the inflatable if any issues are detected.
✔️ Report damage immediately and arrange for an inspection by a PIPA-qualified professional.

Regular safety checks help ensure a fun and safe experience for everyone!
